
Eileen Buckholtz
Eileen Buckholtz is a Computer Scientist, a multi-published Maryland author, a STEMinist, and Director of the Queens of Code Project. She was one of the first students in the country to earn an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Ohio State University in 1969. She received her MS degree in Computer Science at the University of Maryland and her CIO certificate from the National Defense University. For over thirty years, she had an exciting and distinguished career as a Master Computer Scientist with the National Security Agency working on cutting-edge technology and workforce development. Her new book, Queens of Code, Inspiring True Stories from NSA’s Computing Women from MIT Press will be available November 17, 2026.
Eileen is also the co-author of over 40 books of fiction and non-fiction including the Micro Adventure and Magic Micro Series that taught kids how to program computers in the 1980s. In 1988, Eileen was recognized as one of Maryland’s Outstanding Women in Math and Science along with one other computer scientist, Grace Hopper, and was selected as one of the top women in Technology by WITI (Women in Technology International) in 2000. After retirement from NSA, Eileen was president of Technology Concepts, a web design company, a professor of IT, and a consultant to Cyberpack Ventures, Inc., a cyber security company. She is an advocate for children, teens, and women on the web and has promoted STEM programs.
